Fiber-Optic Drone Operator
Combat Roles20 000-120 000 UAHUAVs and UGVs
The fiber-optic drone operator flies a drone linked to the controller by a thin cable rather than by radio, which makes it immune to jamming. The operator prepares the aircraft and the cable spool for flight, watches the tension and remaining length of the line, stays within its limits and passes the information gathered to the command post and the teams being supported.
Responsibilities
- full technical inspection of the drone before every flight;
- checking that cameras, sensors, batteries and navigation systems are working;
- checking the integrity of the fiber-optic cable and the operation of the spool;
- monitoring the tension and length of the unwound fiber throughout the flight;
- keeping range and manoeuvres within the limits of the line;
- promptly passing important information to the command post;
- supporting teams from other units while they carry out their tasks.
Requirements
- readiness to carry out combat tasks in areas of active hostilities;
- understanding of how a drone is built and the specifics of fiber-optic control;
- map-reading and navigation by coordinates and landmarks;
- care in handling the cable and equipment;
- stress resilience and a desire to learn;
- piloting or simulator experience is an advantage.
Conditions
- service under contract or through mobilization; transfer for those already in military service;
- monthly pay from UAH 20,000 to UAH 120,000;
- housing and meals provided, the unit supplies everything needed for service;
- travel to the place of service is arranged;
- annual paid leave and statutory social guarantees.
