413th Separate Regiment of Unmanned Systems “Raid”

“Raid” operates in close coordination with ground units, intelligence elements, and the volunteer rear, combining the tactical mobility of drones with rigorous requirements for crew training. The unit’s mission is to rapidly obtain intelligence, ensure the precise engagement of critical targets, and preserve personnel.

History

The 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment “Raid” is a modern unit of the Unmanned Systems Forces of Ukraine, established in August 2024.

A founding group led by Yevhen Karas (formerly Deputy Commander of the 14th Regiment) departed from the previous structure and formed a new battalion focused on the effective use of UAVs for reconnaissance and target engagement with minimal risk to personnel.

Due to its combat effectiveness and operational flexibility, the initiative was expanded — in October 2025, the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert Brovdi, officially announced the battalion’s transformation into a regiment.

It was the fighters of “Raid” who corrected strikes that eliminated North Korean generals in the Kursk region, and who were the first to destroy North Korean Koksan self-propelled artillery systems and M1991 multiple rocket launch systems. The 413th Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment has one of the lowest casualty and AWOL rates among units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. The regiment also maintains a high level of motivation and incentives for its personnel. Within its first year of existence, when it was still a battalion, “Raid” destroyed enemy equipment valued at nearly USD 4 billion.

Yevhen Vasylovych Karas

Major, Commander of the 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment “Raid”.

A Ukrainian civic, political, and military figure; head of the nationalist organizations C14 and “Future Society”; an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity, as well as in the russian-Ukrainian war — both during the ATO period and the full-scale invasion.

He began his military career as a platoon commander in the Special Operations Forces, later becoming a special operations group commander, then Deputy Commander of the 14th Regiment, and subsequently Commander of the 413th Battalion, which in 2025 was expanded into the 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment “Raid”.

Yevhen Karas combines the experience of a combat officer, organizer, and public figure.

Unit advantages

Within its first year of existence, the 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment “Raid” has developed its own internal style and several recognizable traditions. One of the most distinctive is large-scale award ceremonies, which are always held underground, in bunkers beyond the reach of any missile. This is not only a matter of safety — it is experience drawn from the mistakes of other military units.

Another defining feature of “Raid” is structured leisure that keeps personnel engaged and resilient. The regiment operates reading and gaming clubs and hosts large recreational events attended not only by service members, but also by sponsors, volunteers, and the families of soldiers. It is a space where the front line and the rear come together.

For newcomers, the regiment has introduced an adaptation program — several days of support, familiarization with daily routines, and mentorship by experienced fighters, helping people integrate more easily into the team and avoid feeling lost in the pace of a combat unit.
