9th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems
A military formation of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with brigade-level strength. Since its establishment, the 9th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems has been undergoing the formation phase while simultaneously carrying out missions on the line of contact through small operational groups.
History
The 9th Separate Brigade was established and incorporated into the Unmanned Systems Forces in January 2025, becoming the world’s first unmanned systems brigade. It was formed on the basis of the former 9th Separate Motorized Infantry Battalion.
The core of the brigade consists of experienced service members who apply their infantry background to effectively detect and eliminate the enemy from the air.
Among other units, the brigade includes Ukraine’s first all-female UAS unit, “Harpies,” as well as the “Caucasian Legion” — a unit composed of natives of the Caucasus fighting on the side of Ukraine.
Rustam “Dzhin” Nurgudin
From the first days of the full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks as a volunteer. He progressed from a reconnaissance machine gunner to the commander of a reconnaissance group, gaining combat experience directly on the front line. Later, he became the chief of staff of the “Achilles” battalion. He has participated in hundreds of successful combat operations in the most challenging areas of the front.
Dzhin’s principle is simple: keep moving forward and never stop, because everything can always be done even better. This is the approach he plans to implement in the 9th Separate Brigade of Unmanned Systems — developing the unit and strengthening its capabilities.
